Hideo Kojima marks his 63rd birthday with a pledge to keep making games

Hideo Kojima turned 63 on August 24, a milestone that also marks four decades in the games industry and a decade since he founded Kojima Productions. In a birthday message, Kojima acknowledged the pull of other creative fields but made clear where his focus remains: "I would like to remain focused on creating games," he wrote, noting that as he gets older, the things he has to do and wants to do keep increasing while the time to do them keeps shrinking.

Kojima's next two projects are OD, a horror game developed in collaboration with filmmaker Jordan Peele, and Physint, a stealth game published by Sony. Neither has a release date yet, though Physint was announced as a return to the action-espionage genre that defined much of Kojima's early career.
Despite receiving interest and offers from the film and television world, Kojima has consistently framed game development as his primary calling. His birthday message doubles as a reaffirmation of that, coming at a point when his reputation as an auteur has drawn attention well beyond the games industry.
Kojima Productions is now ten years old, having been founded after Kojima's exit from Konami in 2015. The studio's debut, Death Stranding, released in 2019, followed by Death Stranding 2 in 2025.
