Legendary video game designer Hideo Kojima is officially making a voice acting appearance in Disney's Zootopia 2 for the film's Japanese release.

The details:

  • As reported by Famitsu, Kojima was personally approached by Zootopia 2 co-director Jared Bush to take on the role, and he accepted the offer immediately, marking his first time ever providing voice lines for a major animated movie. The acclaimed game director, best known for Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, will voice Paul Moldebrandt, a mole working at the Zootopia Police Department, replacing Josh Gad's performance from the English version.
  • Kojima is a self-described fan of the original Zootopia, saying he watched it in theaters with his child and praised it as "a Disney animation that reached a certain pinnacle." He highlighted that the film features themes that appealed to both adults and children, noting he plans to experience the sequel in theaters on its December 5 release, this time being able to hear his own performance.
  • Speaking about the recording experience, Kojima stated he was impressed by the level of detail during the process. "I'm usually on the directing side, so I learned a lot from actually acting,” he said. “I was reminded of how much attention voice actors pay to basic things like turning pages in the script and adding noise.”
