Kojima Productions

Hideo Kojima's action-espionage game Physint is no longer a PlayStation title. Sony informed Kojima Productions in mid-June 2026 that it intended to cancel the project, and after three months of searching for a new partner, Xbox has stepped in as publisher. The announcement was made September 9.

The details:

  • Sony's statement was brief: "After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with Kojima Productions on its project Physint." Kojima confirmed the timeline, saying PlayStation notified his studio of its intention to cancel in mid-June, prompting the search for a new publishing partner.
  • Kojima wrote on X: "We found in Xbox a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again." The "once again" refers to OD, the horror project Kojima is developing with Xbox that was announced in 2023. The relationship between the two now covers multiple projects.
  • The partnership will also extend beyond games, with Xbox and Kojima Productions collaborating across film and television. Physint was announced in 2023 as a "cinematic action-espionage game" inspired by Kojima's love of spy films, developed partly in response to a request from a friend who had been diagnosed with a serious illness.
