While Microsoft continues to pull funding from third-party projects and shutter first-party studios as part of its gaming division reset, Hideo Kojima's horror game OD is reportedly unaffected, according to sources close to the situation. The game remains in active development at Kojima Productions with Xbox Game Studios publishing the title.

The details:

  • Multiple reports indicate OD will survive Microsoft's restructuring intact, with sources describing the project as safe from the cuts that have claimed other Xbox-linked projects
  • Kojima Productions operates as an independent studio, meaning it is not subject to the same internal structural pressures hitting Xbox's first-party teams; the publishing deal remains in place regardless of how Microsoft reorganises its own divisions
  • The news comes as Xbox's broader reset has claimed a number of third-party publishing relationships, including the withdrawal of funding from IO Interactive's Project Fantasy RPG
  • OD was first announced at The Game Awards 2023 as an Xbox exclusive collaborative project between Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios, described as a new form of horror entertainment. No release window for OD has been announced as of yet.
