Despite a number of project cancellations at Xbox in recent months, OD, Kojima Productions' Xbox-backed horror title, is still in development.

The details:

  • As reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, a spokesperson has shared that OD has not been caught up in the recent layoffs at Xbox, which saw a number of major projects canned, such as Rare’s Everwilds and The Initiative’s Perfect Dark reboot. Speaking with Indiewire, legendary director Hideo Kojima seemingly confirmed the report, stating that he was “starting to work with the team” on OD following the launch of Death Stranding 2 last month.
  • Kojima has also confirmed that his studio’s other major project, the PlayStation-backed “Physint,” is also still in the works. Currently, the espionage title is still in the conceptual phase, with the designer stating that he is the only person involved in the project for now.
  • First announced at The Game Awards in late 2023, OD is a horror game that Kojima and fellow writer Jordan Peele has stated will "explore the concept of testing your fear threshold and what it means to overdose on fear." Not much has been revealed about the title beyond its bizarre reveal, but it will make use of Xbox’s cloud gaming technology and feature a star-studded cast consisting of Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier.
