Analysts predict that Firewalk Studios' recently released hero shooter, Concord, may have sold fewer than 25,000 units on PS5 and PC following a weak launch.

The details:

  • According to a new report from IGN, analyst Simon Carless estimates that only 10,000 copies of Concord were sold on Steam, with the PS5 version performing slightly better at around 15,000. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella added that the game "ranked 147th US PS5 daily active players across all titles" at the time of the report, "with fewer than 0.2% of Monday's active PS5 players playing the game."

  • While Sony has not released official sales figures, the game has performed poorly so far, peaking at just over 600 players at launch. Its player base has since continued to decline, with a 24-hour peak of 119 concurrent players. The PS5 community is thought to be similarly small, having struggled to break into the top 30 best-selling games on the PlayStation Store.

  • When asked for comments, most analysts told IGN that the poor launch can be attributed to "poor marketing, a high price point, and, most critically, a lack of differentiation in an oversaturated genre." Midia Research analyst Rhys Elliott also explained that Concord's $40 price point "limited its audience numbers and user acquisition" as its competitors, such as Overwatch 2, are free to play.

  • Concord is just another example of a live-service title that failed to make an impact in the industry, despite being a good game. As its player base shrinks, the game is likely to lose most of its post-launch support, shut down entirely, or transition to a free-to-play model similar to Square Enix's Foamstars. However, the negative press surrounding the game's failure may cause many people to avoid it regardless.
