Playground Games releases 18-minute Fable quest gameplay ahead of February 2027 launch
Xbox

Playground Games has shared an 18-minute gameplay demonstration for Fable through Xbox's Gamescom 2026 broadcast, offering the most detailed look yet at the RPG's world and combat. The video centres on a quest called "Mud and Death," which takes the hero and guild leader Humphrey into a haunted, once-flooded mine filled with traps, ghosts, and skeletons.

The details:

  • The demo is set in Bowerstone, Fable's central city, home to 400 fully voiced NPCs each with their own homes, hobbies, traits, and personalities. Players can purchase up to 130 homes and 30 businesses across the city.
  • Gameplay was narrated by art director Conar Cross and showcases the game's hybrid combat system, built around the classic Strength, Skill, and Will framework. Players can move between melee strikes, ranged attacks, and multi-target spells without breaking flow.
  • Fable was delayed from its original 2026 window to February 23, 2027, with Playground Games citing the GTA 6 November release as a factor in the decision. The game launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC as a day one Game Pass title.
