Final Fantasy XVI has managed to sell over three million copies within its opening week, according to its developer, Square Enix.

Despite being released exclusively on PlayStation 5 on June 22, Square Enix announced on the game's official Twitter account that over three million units of the game have been sold worldwide. Its lifetime sales are expected to increase in 2024, with producer Naoki Yoshida confirming that the developers are now working on creating a PC port of the title, although it will not be available immediately after Sony's six-month exclusivity deal expires.
Final Fantasy XV sold 5 million copies during its first week of release in 2016, but the game was available on both Xbox and PlayStation. The original PS4 release of the Final Fantasy VII remake sold more copies, at 3.5 million, but the game also had a lot of hype built up around it from years of fan speculation. Physical sales of XVI are also down 74% compared to XV, demonstrating the industry's ongoing shift toward digital distribution.
The game's marketing campaign included stunts like placing a replica of Clive's Invictus sword alongside real sets of armor worn by British royalty in the Tower of London's Royal Armouries collection. Aside from new trailers, Square Enix also began placing several 3D ads throughout Japan, with the game’s powerful summons, known as Eikons, being seen fighting in Tokyo.

With the release of the GOG version of the series, former Yakuza developers' names have been removed from the credits of previous titles on which they worked. Support studios Lab42 and QLOC, as well as series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, are among those affected.
Activision has announced that the original Warzone, now renamed Warzone Caldera, will be phased out in September. The shutdown will allow the publisher's teams to "focus on future Call of Duty content, including the current Warzone free-to-play experience," with Warzone Mobile set to launch soon.
