Veteran director Hideaki Itsuno is leaving Capcom after over 30 years
Hideaki Itsuno, a longtime Capcom designer best known for directing Dragon's Dogma and multiple Devil May Cry entries, has announced his departure from the developer after "30 years and 5 months."
The details:
On X, the director announced that he will leave Capcom at the end of August and will "start developing a new game in a new environment" in September, which he hopes will be "as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far." Itsuno also thanked fans for their support over the years and encouraged them to continue supporting Capcom's releases.
During his three decades at Capcom, Itsuno was behind a number of beloved titles. This included directing Power Stone, taking over the Devil May Cry franchise after the second entry's mixed reception, resulting in critically acclaimed DMC 3, 4, and 5, and creating another major Capcom franchise with Dragon's Dogma, which was followed by a sequel earlier this year.
It is currently unknown whether Itsuno intends to start his own studio, as many veteran industry figures have done in recent years, or if the director will join another developer.
