PlayStation shooter Concord flops at launch with less than a thousand concurrent players on Steam
Concord, a hero shooter developed by Sony's Firewalk Studios, appears to have failed commercially after reaching a peak of just 660 players on Steam following its launch last week, with its player count continuing to decline.
The details:
Concord was released on PS5 and PC on August 23rd, following a highly criticized reveal earlier this year and a mixed response to its beta. According to Steam Charts, its all-time peak concurrent player count of an embarrassingly low 660 players was set immediately after launch, before falling to a 24-hour peak of 267 just days later.
Although exact player numbers and sales figures for the PS5 version have yet to be revealed, it's clear that Concord hasn't gotten off to a good start on Sony's console. When sorting by the current best-selling games on the US PlayStation Store, the shooter appears on the second page, in 37th place alongside Astro Bot, which is currently available for pre-order.
The game hasnβt fared too well critically, with many highlighting the $40 price tag for a title in a genre dominated by free-to-play releases, specifically Overwatch 2. Lead character designer Jon Weisnewski confirmed that Concord had been in development for eight years, leaving players wondering why Sony continued to invest resources in a hero shooter project that fails to push any boundaries.
