The critically acclaimed role-playing game is officially on the list of the top ten best-selling games of all time.
The details:
- After eight years on the market, series developer CD Projekt Red revealed in a new tweet that the title has surpassed 50 million unit sales. The figure includes both the base game and the game of the year edition, which includes the DLCs Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. This places it ninth on the list of all-time best-selling games, surpassing the first-generation Pokémon titles.
- The studio also confirmed that total sales of the main Witcher series, which includes 2007's The Witcher, 2011's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and, of course, 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, have now surpassed 75 million units.
- Fans and critics alike regard The Witcher 3 as one of the best RPGs of all time, and it features open-world gameplay with a strong focus on its narrative. Despite the fact that it was released in 2015 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, it was an instant success, propelling both the game and the book series into the spotlight.
- The developer is now working on a number of Witcher projects, including Project Sirius, which was recently rebooted and is set to be a co-op PvE title. Adam Adam Kiciński, the company's CEO, may have accidentally revealed that a fourth title is on the way earlier this year when he stated that Project Polaris is actually The Witcher 4, though a spokesperson has stated that this was simply a "slip of the tongue.”
More gaming numbers:
- Sony has announced that the PlayStation VR2 has sold over 600,000 units since its February release, an 8% increase over the original headset. Analysts predicted that the headset would sell 270,000 units by March 2023, but it sold more than double that number.
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now the fastest-selling Zelda game of all time, selling 10 million units in the first three days. It is also the second-best-selling Zelda title, trailing only its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, which sold 30 million copies over six years.
