It has been claimed that a long-rumored remake of Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be announced in the coming weeks, with a release date later this year.

The details:

  • In 2023, an alleged former employee of Chinese developer Virtuos stated that a remake of Oblivion was in development. The project's existence was later confirmed by a leaked Microsoft court document from 2020, with further details surfacing from a website owned by another Virtuos employee earlier this year, including word that the company was targeting a 2025 release.

  • Reputable leaker NateTheHate has now provided a brief but promising update on the remake, stating that it will be revealed "either this month or next month." Nate also claims that the game will most likely arrive before its targeted window of June 2025, though VGC has revealed that its own sources suggest it could be released as early as next month.

  • It's also worth noting that Oblivion's 19th anniversary is approaching on March 20, which is a perfect time to reveal the project.

  • According to the latest leak, Oblivion will be remade using a combination of Unreal Engine 5 and the original game’s Gamebryo engine and feature various gameplay adjustments from the 2006 title. This includes new stamina, archery, stealth, and blocking systems; a modernized HUD; and reworked hit reactions.
