“Don't bet" on a third The Last of Us game, says Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann

While it was previously hinted that a third entry in The Last of Us could be in the works, Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann has now stated that fans should not "bet on there being more" from the franchise.
The details:
In a recent interview with Variety about the second season of The Last of Us' TV adaptation, Druckmann was asked if a third game would be released in the future, to which he gave a rather disappointing response. "I was waiting for this question," Druckmann said. “I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of Last of Us. This could be it.”
Druckmann revealed in 2021 that Naughty Dog already had a story outline for a third game, and while it was not currently in development, he then stated two years later that he believes there is "more story to tell." He reinforced the idea of a third entry once again last February, stating that he had finally thought of a concept for the game and that he believed there was "probably one more chapter to this story."
It's unclear what prompted Druckmann to dismiss the idea of making another TLOU after years of teasers, but some have pointed out that Naughty Dog is working on multiple single-player projects, one of which could be TLOU 3. If the game does get announced, it will most likely be years away, as the studio is currently working on its new sci-fi title, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
