Square Enix has confirmed that it is planning several Chrono Trigger-related projects to commemorate the game's 30th anniversary, though details are scarce.

The details:

  • In a new post on X, the publisher announced that it would be "launching various projects that go beyond the world of the game over the next year to express our gratitude to everyone who has played Chrono Trigger so far." Square Enix did not provide any further details, but advised fans to keep an eye on its social media channels, including the official Chrono Trigger X account, which has been inactive for years.

  • Unsurprisingly, fans have already begun to speculate on what the projects might be, with many believing that a remaster of Chrono Trigger for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch is in the works, as the game is currently only available on PC and mobile. Others believe a full remake could be planned, with fans requesting a Dragon Quest III HD-2D-style makeover.

  • On the other hand, it's entirely possible that the projects will not directly involve the game. Fans have suggested a concert tour featuring the game's iconic music from composer Yasunori Mitsuda, similar to those for Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, could take place. Chrono Trigger-inspired content may also appear in other titles, such as Final Fantasy XIV, which has previously collaborated with various other IPs.
