Ballistic Moon's studio "effectively shut down" after Until Dawn remake
Ballistic Moon

Ballistic Moon, known for its recent Until Dawn remake, has reportedly "effectively closed," following multiple rounds of redundancies, leaving only a minimal number of staff remaining, none of whom are developers.

  • Based in the UK, Ballistic Moon confirmed last year that it had to make "tough decisions" to downscale significantly to secure the studio's future. However, a new report from Insider Gaming suggests a further quiet reduction in staff occurred towards the end of the year. Approximately 40 employees were dismissed in October, with an additional 20 developers let go in December, purportedly leaving just the founders and possibly a few staff members at the studio.
  • With no development team remaining, the studio is unable to address bugs or other issues with the Until Dawn remake, leaving players to merely report problems without hope of fixes. Efforts by the studio’s founders to secure new project pitches and funding were unsuccessful, and although discussions with Sony about funding for further updates or new games were initiated, these efforts did not come to fruition.
  • This closure is part of a broader trend of layoffs and studio shutdowns across the industry, with recent significant cuts at companies like Inflexion Games, Ubisoft, Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. Additional job losses have been reported this week at PlayStation, following the cancellation of several live-service projects.
