Nintendo has announced that the film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda will now be released in May 2027, citing "production reasons."
The details:
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed in a post on X that the film will be pushed back a few weeks, from March 26, 2027 to May 7, 2027. The veteran game director did not explicitly state the reason for the delay, other than that it was for "production reasons," and that it would take "extra time to make the film as good as it can be."
The project was originally announced in 2023, and little is known about it at this time, but rumors about its cast have surfaced. It was reported that Euphoria actor Hunter Schafer could portray Princess Zelda, but these claims were later debunked, as the star is more likely to secure a role in an upcoming Marvel project.
Nintendo is also working on a sequel to its massively successful Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is set to come out in April of next year. Last October, Toad voice actor Keegan-Michael Key stated that the film will include "old favourites" and "really deep cuts" as well as plenty of easter eggs for fans.
