Nintendo to acquire animation studio and form 'Nintendo Pictures'

Nintendo has entered an agreement to acquire a company that it would develop visual content through and rebrand as Nintendo Pictures.

The agreement: Nintendo plans to acquire 100% of the CG production company.

• The deal would see Nintendo acquire the entirety of Dynamo Pictures and utilize it as its own subsidiary.
• Financial details of the prospective transaction have not been disclosed at the time of publication but it will only have a "minor effect" on the company's results for the year.
• Should the deal close, Dynamo Pictures will be rebranded as Nintendo Pictures as the company looks to strengthen its planning and production of visual content, according to an announcement.
• As per its IMDb page, the production company has worked on titles such as Death Stranding, Persona 5, and Metroid: Other M.

The big screen: Could Nintendo be preparing to hit Hollywood hard?

• Over the years there has been a growing interest in adapting popular video games into movies and series, whether that's Sonic the Hedgehog on the big screen (it even got a sequel!) or the Halo show on Paramount+.
• Nintendo is working towards releasing an animated movie based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise that'll star Chris Pratt. It's said to be released early in 2023. Detective Pikachu, a decently received Pokémon movie, was released in 2019.
• Riot Games' success with Arcane is likely inspiring a bunch of its fellow game developers to work towards expanding their IP into new avenues. It's unclear how exactly Nintendo plans to utilize Dynamo Pictures when the acquisition is cleared.
