Nintendo will not attend Gamescom 2024
Nintendo has announced that it will not be attending Gamescom 2024 in August, though no reason has been provided as yet.
The details:
The company confirmed its absence in a statement to German publication Games Wirtschaft earlier today. “Gamescom is a central event in the event calendar for Nintendo,” a Nintendo spokesperson said. “This year, however, after careful consideration, we decided against participating in Cologne. The games for Nintendo Switch can instead be tried out by players as part of other Germany-wide events.”
Nintendo was among the first exhibitors to be announced for last year's Gamescom, where it reportedly demonstrated its next system behind closed doors. The demos were said to include a higher frame rate version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well as a raytraced tech demo for The Matrix Awakens.
Although it has yet to confirm the reason for its absence, it has been reported that the Switch's successor has been delayed internally to next year rather than being released in the second half of 2024. The company may instead attend next year's Gamescom, where it will most likely showcase a new system and games to fans.
