It has been confirmed that Nintendo will be attending this yearβs Gamescom event, which will take place between August 23 and 27 in Cologne, Germany.
The details:
- The official Gamescom Twitter account has confirmed that the Japanese gaming giant will be exhibiting in some capacity at the event as its first announcement, with more companies to follow in the coming weeks. Nintendo did not attend last year's event, so this will be the company's first in-person appearance at Gamescom since 2019.
- Nintendo is expected to reveal some upcoming titles, given that its two most notable games this year, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4, will have already been released by August, leaving us all wondering what we'll see at the event. Although there has been some speculation about the Switch's successor, the console will likely only receive a confirmation if Nintendo decides to bring it up at all.
- Nintendo was one of many companies said to be skipping the now-canceled E3 2023, claiming that it "doesn't have enough major releases ready to show that would justify significant event space," which seems odd given the company's upcoming appearance at Gamescom. It's also unclear whether Nintendo will hold its September Nintendo Direct, which has previously been reserved for some major announcements, or if the event will serve as a replacement or companion to it.
More Nintendo news:
- Due to the massive success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Mario series creator Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that Nintendo intends to release more films based on its IPs in the future. Fans have begun to speculate on which franchises might see future adaptations, with many believing that Zelda or Luigi's Mansion could end up on the big screen.
- Nintendo has won the court battle against file-hosting service operator Dstorage after a failed appeal of a 2021 ruling holding it responsible for hosting pirated games on one of its sites. The provider was originally ordered to pay β¬935,500 in damages but has now been ordered to pay an additional β¬442,750 in damages as well as β¬25,000 in legal fees.
- Nintendo has announced that Nintendo Live will take place in Seattle in September 2023. The show is confirmed to include tournaments, performances, and games, though no major announcements are expected. No specific location has been confirmed as of yet, but more details are expected shortly.
