Microsoft has announced that Gears of War will make its way to PlayStation for the first time ever, with an updated version of the franchise's debut coming later this year.
The details:
Almost two decades since its debut on Xbox 360, Gears of War: Reloaded will bring the original game to Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5 on August 26 for $39.99, or free for Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscribers. Owners of 2015's Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive a free upgrade, but this offer is only available to those who owned the title before Reloaded's announcement.
Based on Ultimate Edition, Reloaded introduces a number of modern improvements, including 4K 60FPS support in its campaign, improved textures, shadows, and other visual upgrades, and even the removal of loading screens during campaign. Its multiplayer mode, which supports 120 FPS, will also allow for cross-play and cross-progression between all platforms.
The release of Reloaded arrives ahead of the next installment in the franchise, E-Day, which is set 14 years before the original game and "depicts the horror of the Locust invasion on Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix." It is being developed by Xbox first-party studio The Coalition in collaboration with People Can Fly, the franchise's long-time co-developer.
