Players who own Fallout 4 via the PlayStation Plus Collection may not receive its next-gen update
Update: Bethesda has now fixed the issue, allowing PlayStation Plus Extra and Plus Collection players to download the native PS5 version of Fallout 4.
Following the confusion surrounding the release of Fallout 4's next-gen update last week, Bethesda has seemingly confirmed that the native PS5 version of the game will only be available to those who purchased it or currently play through PlayStation Plus Extra.
The details:
The game's next-gen update was released on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC last Thursday, and while the Xbox and PC versions were simply updates, the PS5 received a completely new version of the 2015 title. The native version improved performance and added new content over the original PS4 release, which was previously the only way to play Fallout 4 on PS5.
However, it was quickly discovered that players who downloaded Fallout 4 through the free PS Plus Collection (which was phased out last year) and the PS Plus Extra subscription were unable to download the PS5 version. It was later confirmed by Bethesda that Plus Extra users would receive the update at no additional cost.
Unfortunately, it appears that the studio has no plans for Plus Collection copies of the game, despite Bethesda stating that all players would receive the update. Some Extra users also purchased the game to gain access to the update before it was confirmed to be coming to the service, raising questions regarding refunds for those who believed they would be able to play the improved version.
