Stellar Blade 2 will be published by developer Shift Up, may skip PlayStation exclusivity
Shift Up/Sony

Stellar Blade 2 will be self‑published by developer Shift Up instead of Sony, as the studio says it wants the sequel to launch on multiple platforms to reach a “broad global audience from day one."

The details:

  • Shift Up confirmed in a Q&A for its Q1 earnings that development of Stellar Blade’s sequel is “progressing smoothly” and remains on track to meet the team’s targeted quality standards and internal deadlines. No specific platforms or release window has been announced, but it’s believed that the game will arrive sometime during 2027.
  • Unlike the first Stellar Blade, which Sony published as a PS5 exclusive in April 2024 before a PC port arrived 14 months later, the sequel will be published directly by Shift Up under what it calls a new “first‑party service model.”
  • The studio says this change will let it “lead marketing strategies that fully reflect the distinctive identity of the Stellar Blade IP” and communicate the game’s universe “more directly and effectively” to players.
  • Shift Up is also planning an “optimal go‑to‑market strategy designed to maximize sales and reach a broad global audience from day one,” implying that the studio may opt for a multi-platform release, skipping out on any timed exclusivity periods.
