Battlestate Games has reversed its decision to lock Escape from Tarkov's upcoming PvE mode behind the $250 "Unheard Edition" of the game and apologized to fans, stating that it had not anticipated the backlash.

The details:

  • Last week, Battlestate revealed EFT's new Unheard Edition, which drew widespread criticism from the community for including several in-game benefits deemed "pay-to-win" as well as locking a highly requested PvE mode behind a high price. Players shamed the studio after the now-delisted "Edge of Darkness" edition advertised a season pass that included all future DLC, implying the PvE mode would be included, only for the developer to deny it was DLC content.

  • Battlestate responded to the situation over the weekend by offering EoD edition owners full access to the mode, though it would not be available until the mode's full launch, which could be years away. Despite this, COO Nikita Buyanov stood by his decision not to classify the mode as DLC. "DLC in our understanding is the major additions to the game, including various functionality and content that are released after the official release of the game as a themed DLC pack,” the COO said.

  • Buyanov has now apologized that "fans and the game community in general are experiencing these feelings" and claimed that the developer "somehow did not foresee the fact of such a reaction." All EoD owners will be granted access to the mode in waves, with mod support coming later. Other Unheard Edition perks and content will be adjusted for balancing reasons.
