People Can Fly confirms layoffs affecting 120 employees, marking its second wave of layoffs in 2024
People Can Fly, a Polish developer known for titles such as Outriders and Bulletstorm, has announced another round of layoffs, following cuts in early 2024.
The details:
In a LinkedIn post, CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski confirmed that the studio is "suspending or parting ways" with over 120 employees due to "external market pressures." "We believe in our teams, games and their potential, and we remain extremely committed to continuing that journey, but we need to tailor our plans to our financial capacity," Wojciechowski wrote.
Along with the layoffs, the developer has confirmed that it is reducing its self-publishing strategy by halting work on Project Victoria, reducing the size of the team developing Project Bifrost, and restructuring its supporting teams. The studio is now focusing its efforts on a "single independent game," and has confirmed that it will assist those directly affected by the job cuts.
People Can Fly laid off over 30 employees in January after budget cuts were imposed on its project with Square Enix, Project Gemini. This was followed by the official cancellation of Project Dagger after several years of development in April, with the company now focusing on Microsoft-supported Project Maverick alongside its other internal projects.
