It has been reported that Visual Concepts, the 2K-owned studio best known for its work on the NBA 2K and WWE 2K franchises, has been hit hard by a wave of layoffs.

The details:

  • News of the cuts surfaced on LinkedIn when former employees shared that they had been let go, including designers and engineers. While the total number of employees affected by the cuts is still unknown, Insider Gaming reports that the layoffs have mainly impacted the WWE team.
  • It has been said that WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition failed to โ€œmeet expectationsโ€ at Netflix, with Take-Two management allegedly painting an unrealistic picture of the internal reception. As a result, Netflix chose not to pursue new versions of 2K26 and 2K27, leaving the development team without future work.
  • This marks the third round of job cuts would be the third in three years. In September 2023, the studio reportedly laid off a number of staff at its Austin, TX, office. Almost a year later, in August 2024, another layoff wave reportedly caught staff at Visual Concepts South.
