The Pokémon Company has announced that it is partnering with Aardman, the animation studio best known for Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, to create a “special project” set for 2027.

The details:

  • As announced in a new press release, the two companies are collaborating on a "special project" that will see Aardman bring its "unique style of storytelling to the Pokémon universe in brand-new adventures." The project's details have not yet been revealed, but it is expected to be a new Pokémon TV show or film animated in Aardman's signature stop-motion clay style.

  • The Pokémon Company’s VP of marketing and media, Taito Okiura, described the collaboration as a “dream partnership” for the brand, calling Aardman “masters of their craft.” Aardman managing director Sean Clarke also commented on the partnership, stating that the company is “sincerely privileged” to be given access to the IP and that it plans to “create charming, original, and new stories for audiences around the world.”

  • As noted by Variety, both Aardman and The Pokémon Company have ongoing deals with streaming service Netflix, suggesting that the project could be an exclusive. Pokémon Concierge, which featured stop-motion animation, was released on the platform last year, and the anime series Pokémon Horizons is also available internationally through the service.
