Nintendo appears to have acquired the remaining 4% of Xenoblade Chronicles developer Monolith Soft's shares, bringing the company's stake in the studio to 100%.
The details:
As reported by Automaton, Monolith Soft's official website now shows that Nintendo owns all 2,400 of the company's shares. While neither company has commented on the acquisition, it appears to have occurred between the beginning of October and mid-November, as an archived version of the page from October 1 shows Nintendo owning 96% of the developer with 2,320 shares.
The remaining 80 shares were previously held by Monolith Soft co-founders Hirohide Sugiura, Tetsuya Takahashi, and Yasuyuki Honne. Nintendo acquired 80% of the company from Bandai Namco in 2007 before upping its ownership to 96% in 2011.
Monolith Soft has only released games for Nintendo systems since the 2008 release of Soma Bringer for the DS. Before this, it created the cult classic Xenosaga franchise on the PlayStation, which would later receive a spiritual successor in Xenoblade Chronicles, spawning numerous sequels and spin-offs. Earlier this year, it was announced that the Wii U-exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles X would be remastered for the Switch, bringing the entire series to the platform.
