EA has officially confirmed that if PlayStation and Xbox players wish to play together in Battlefield 6, they will be forced to include PC players despite fan requests over cheating concerns.

The details:

  • In a recent interview with IGN, senior combat designer Matthew Nickerson stated that if console Battlefield 6 players want to play only with those on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, the game will include a toggle. Players would be able to choose whether to play with others on their current platform, between consoles, or across all platforms, including PC. "We're very confident but also very keen to what crossplay means for Battlefield 6," Nickerson said. "We've gone the extra mile and put in a lot of effort in terms of balancing the inputs, understanding where the inputs lie [not just] in terms of relationship to general play styles but general performance of what they're good at and maybe what they lack."
  • However, publisher EA has since contacted Dexerto about the situation, clarifying that Nickerson’s statement is not entirely accurate and that players can only choose to play with all platforms or exclusively with others on their current platform.
  • Console-only crossplay has recently gained popularity as a result of the ongoing rise in online cheaters. Notably, despite investing in stronger anti-cheat systems, Call of Duty has struggled significantly in combating in-game cheaters, prompting many players to avoid PC players in favor of a much better chance at legitimate matches.
  • In the aforementioned IGN interview, technical director Christian Buhl acknowledged the widespread issue with cheaters stating that EA is “putting a lot of work into prioritising fighting against cheaters.” “We have a whole team within Battlefield dedicated to anti-cheat, which includes engineers, analysts who are reviewing things and banning players, and figuring out what the latest cheats are,” he explained. “We have another whole dedicated team at EA to anti-cheat that we work closely with.”
