Rockstar Games breaks silence on GTA 6 leaks, calls footage "heartbreaking" ahead of official Netflix reveal

The details:

• A leaker or group operating under the name Cyberleek posted 15 clips of GTA 6 gameplay footage over the past week, showing environments including a beach, a nightclub, and a game store selling physical discs. Take-Two has been pursuing the source through subpoenas served to both Microsoft and Discord.
• Rockstar posted a statement to social media breaking what it described as a difficult silence. "It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time," the company wrote.

• In an unusual move for a studio known for saying little publicly, Rockstar also apologised directly to players. "We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has — from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know."
• The company acknowledged the leaks could affect the intended player experience, adding it hopes "everyone will wait a bit longer to experience the game for themselves on November 19." An official gameplay reveal on Netflix is planned for August 27.
• Despite the unusual circumstances, fan response to the leaked footage has been largely positive. The clips showing crowd density and open-world detail generated significant excitement online ahead of the official reveal.
