EA lays off Battlefield studios staff following record-breaking Battlefield 6 launch

Despite Battlefield 6 becoming the biggest launch in franchise history, EA has laid off an unknown number of staff across several of its studios.

The details:

  • As reported by IGN, the layoffs have hit the core studios under the Battlefield Studios banner, including UK-based Criterion, franchise creator DICE, and newer studios Ripple Effect and Motive. Employees have reportedly been told that the cuts are part of a "realignment" across the Battlefield 6 development teams to continue providing live service support.
  • Battlefield 6 sold an impressive seven million copies within its first three days and was the best-selling game in the US alone in 2025. Despite the game peaking at 747,440 concurrent players on Steam at launch late last year, the title has struggled to maintain those numbers due to a lack of new content and the continued push towards microtransactions. Currently, Battlefield 6 sits at an average concurrent player count of over 65,000 on Steam.
  • EA is currently in the process of being acquired by a consortium consisting of several US-based investment firms and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in an all-cash deal worth approximately $55 billion, which is set to close by June 2026. The publisher also recently confirmed that it had made cuts at Skate. developer Full Circle in order to refocus its efforts on supporting the free-to-play game going forward.
