EA's Skate will release in early access next month
Electronic Arts

EA has announced that Skate will enter early access in September on last- and current-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles and PC.

The details:

  • The free-to-play title will arrive on September 16, 2025, complete with full cross-platform multiplayer and cross-progression. It will feature four neighborhoods in the open world of San Vansterdam and will require an internet connection to play at all times due to its live service structure. There is currently no word on the planned Android and iOS versions of Skate.
  • EA has previously confirmed that the game will feature both free and paid season passes, which will arrive every few months alongside new challenges, cosmetics, and other content as part of each season. Interestingly, seasons will also bring new music to its soundtrack, allowing EA to rotate out tracks should any licensing issues arise.
  • Reception to Skate has been mixed since it was first unveiled. While many have praised its gameplay throughout its closed testing period, fans have criticized its cartoon-style visuals, moving away from the more grounded style of past titles. EA was also met with backlash when it was revealed that its in-game store, which sells cosmetics in exchange for real-world cash, would be introduced prior to its launch, first being included in an alpha build of the game.
