Ubisoft lays off 45 employees across its US offices
Ubisoft has confirmed that it has laid off 45 employees at Ubisoft San Francisco and Red Storm Entertainment as part of a restructuring.
The details:
The publisher confirmed that the cuts were made at the studios responsible for XDefiant and the now-canceled The Division: Heartland in a statement to Eurogamer. "Last week Ubisoft San Francisco and Red Storm Entertainment informed their teams of a restructuring that will result in 45 employees leaving Ubisoft," a spokesperson said. "This difficult yet necessary decision was made to align these studios' organisations with their future business and development objectives. We are committed to providing comprehensive support to those affected, including severance and career assistance, and we thank them for their many contributions to Ubisoft."
Red Storm's live service title The Division: Heartland was canceled earlier this year after more than three years of development, with some of its staff moving to other studios to work on Rainbow Six Siege and XDefiant, which were described as "bigger opportunities."
This is Ubisoft's third round of layoffs in 2024, after 45 employees were let go from its publishing and APAC teams in April, followed by 33 job losses at Ubisoft Toronto in late June. Since the start of its cost-cutting program in 2022, it has laid off over 1,000 employees, including over 120 positions in its Canadian locations during November 2023.
