Ubisoft has announced that North Carolina-based studio Red Storm Entertainment will no longer develop games, with over 100 jobs being lost as a result of the publisher’s restructuring plans.

The details:

  • As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the studio will continue to provide IT support to Ubisoft’s other teams and work on the in-house Snowdrop but will no longer directly participate in the development of any games. As a result of the restructuring, the publisher is laying off 105 employees, all of whom will receive support in the form of severance packages and assistance in finding new work.
  • Founded in 1996 by author Tom Clancy, Red Storm was the first studio to create video games based on his works, spawning the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon franchises. The developer went on to develop VR titles in recent years, with Ubisoft pulling the plug on a Splinter Cell game and The Division: Heartland in 2022 and 2024, respectively, leading to layoffs.
  • The cuts are a part of Ubisoft’s worldwide cost-cutting program, which aims to save the publisher €200 million as it continues to struggle financially. Back in January, the company began offering employees at its Paris HQ the ability to voluntarily be laid off, with further cuts taking place at several locations.
