Segaโ€™s Streets of Rage movie will now be written by Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller, with The Harder They Fall director Jeymes Samuel signing on as its director.

  • As reported by Deadline, the adaptation has been โ€œalive and wellโ€ at Lionsgate since the rights were acquired in 2022, when John Wick creator Derek Kolstad wrote an early draft of the script. The script is expected to undergo a heavy rewrite due to the significant changes in its production team.
  • Casey and Miller are best known for writing the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy, which has grossed over $1 billion combined at the box office, as well as its upcoming fourth entry. The decision for the writers to join the project is unsurprising given that they have already worked with a Sega IP in the past.
  • Jeymes Samuel, who previously wrote and directed Netflix western The Harder They Fall and biblical drama The Book of Clarence will serve as the filmโ€™s director going forward.
  • Not much is known about the project as of yet, but the film was described in a past press release as "leaning heavily into the cult classic game known for its iconic characters, acclaimed electronic soundtracks, and beat 'em up action."
