Striking Distance Studios, best known for survival horror title The Callisto Protocol, has been hit by another round of job cuts, with former employees claiming that "most" of its developers have been laid off.

The details:

  • As reported by PC Gamer, a number of former employees shared news of the layoffs on LinkedIn last week, and Krafton has now confirmed that the studio has downsized but has not shut down. "Striking Distance Studios has reduced the size of its team to remain agile, which creates a sustainable environment for the studio at its current stage of development," a Krafton representative told PC Gamer. "The studio remains operational, and these changes will not impact any planned ongoing support. No further changes are planned at this time."

  • While the South Korean publisher declined to disclose how many employees have been laid off, former concept art director Jesse Lee said on LinkedIn that "most of the devs were laid off.” Animation director Zach Volker also shared that there were "lots of layoffs" at the studio.

  • This is Striking Distance’s second round of layoffs since the underwhelming release of The Callisto Protocol in late 2022. Back in August 2023, 32 employees were let go, with studio founder and former Dead Space producer Glen Schofield leaving the developer just a month later. Since then, the studio quietly released Redacted, which failed to reach above 200 concurrent players on Steam, and is currently working on an unannounced multiplayer title.
