Subnautica 2 may now be on course to be self‑published by developer Unknown Worlds, as Krafton is no longer listed as the game’s publisher on Steam and the Epic Games Store after losing its legal battle against the studio’s reinstated leaders.

The details:

  • Last month, a Delaware court ruled that Krafton had breached its contract with the firing of Unknown Worlds’ CEO Ted Gill and co-founders Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire, who claimed that the publisher had removed them from their positions and delayed Subnautica 2 to avoid paying up to a $250 million bonus. As a result, the court ordered that Gill be reinstated as CEO of Unknown Worlds, restoring his access to the studio’s Steam publishing tools and giving him sole authority over Subnautica 2’s early access launch plans.
  • Fans have now spotted that Krafton was no longer listed as Subnautica 2’s publisher on Steam, with the game’s store page now naming Unknown Worlds Entertainment as the game’s publisher instead. According to SteamDB, the change took place on April 7 and has remained in place for over a week.
  • Similar changes have since taken place on other storefronts, with reports pointing out that Krafton’s name has also been removed from the publisher sections on the Epic Games Store and Xbox Store, suggesting that the project will now be self-published by Unknown Worlds.
