After initially denying the claim, Krafton CEO Kim Chang-han has now admitted to consulting ChatGPT for guidance on how to handle the ongoing legal dispute with Subnautica 2's former developers.

The details:

  • Earlier this week, it was reported that former Unknown Worlds founders and leadership, who were fired from the studio earlier this year, had accused the CEO of using ChatGPT to try and find a way to avoid paying out a $250 million bonus that was outlined in their contracts. Despite the claims, Krafton said that the chats were no longer obtainable, leaving the legitimacy of the claims up in the air.
  • However, according to a court testimony seen by PCGamer, Kim admitted he "actually searched on ChatGPT to get faster answers" regarding what legal rights Krafton had in the situation involving the Subnautica 2 developers. When asked why he would consult a chatbot on such an important matter, Kim responded that he uses ChatGPT "just like everyone else" for "faster answers or responses, just like Google search."
  • While Kim went on to delete some of the messages over privacy concerns, Unknown Worlds' lawyers have claimed that some of the conversations still exist. The documents also detail a situation where the CEO had contacted Krafton's head of corporate development, Maria Park, linking a ChatGPT conversation about the contract in question.
