Fans have spotted that Subnautica 2โ€™s end-user licensing agreement (EULA) includes some strange clauses such as the banning of VPN use while playing and more, leading some to brand the EULA as โ€œpredatory.โ€

The details:

  • In a post to the Stop Killing Games subreddit (via Eurogamer), a place to discuss the ongoing movement aiming to tighten consumer rights and promote game preservation, one user broke down the current EULA, revealing some controversial clauses included. The most notable inclusion is a clause that stipulates that publisher Krafton can revoke access to the title at any point due to players only purchasing a license to play.
  • Other clauses claim that players must own multiple licenses to play on multiple devices, the use of VPNs during gameplay is prohibited, gameplay cannot be uploaded to paid platforms, and the max payout for any user damages is just $50 USD.
  • However, some fans have noted that many EULAs typically include clauses that cannot be enforced legally, with some being overwritten by consumer protection laws. Developer Unknown Worlds has also gone against some of the issues mentioned in the EULA already, such as supporting the modding scene for Subnautica.
