It has been confirmed that Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero will receive dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Editions this month, bringing free performance and visual upgrades to the underwater survival titles.

The details:

  • Publisher Krafton and developer Unknown Worlds have announced that both Subnautica games will launch as Nintendo Switch 2 Editions on February 17, with current owners on the original Switch able to claim a free upgrade via the Nintendo eShop once the update goes live.
  • The Switch 2 versions of Subnautica and Below Zero promise “visual and performance enhancements,” running at up to 1440p and 60 FPS when docked and 1080p at 60 FPS in handheld mode, offering a much smoother experience than the original Switch releases. The upgrade also brings dedicated Joy-Con 2 controls, offering improved movement.
  • To coincide with the announcement, Unknown Worlds has also released the fifth developer vlog for Subnautica 2, showcasing its new four-player co-op features, shared base-building, and cross-platform ambitions ahead of the sequel’s planned launch later this year, positioning the Switch 2 upgrades as a warm-up for the franchise’s next major installment.
