Subnautica 2 enters early access in May following lawsuit between its developer and Krafton
Krafton

After a heated legal battle between publisher Krafton and the fired leadership team of developer Unknown Worlds, Subnautica 2 will finally enter early access on May 14.

The details:

  • As announced on April 30 alongside a new cinematic trailer, the early access version of Subnautica 2 will be available on several PC storefronts including Steam, the Xbox Store, and the Epic Games Store for $29.99 USD. “You will only need to buy Subnautica 2 once during Early Access,” Unknown Worlds wrote on the game’s official website. “You’ll get all additions, updates, and hotfixes up to our 1.0 launch and beyond.”
  • The game is playable solo, as originally intended, or with up to three others, with the studio confirming that it plans to release minor updates every four to six weeks. Meanwhile, major updates that make notable changes and additions to the world, story, and gameplay mechanics will arrive every few months, with the early access period lasting  “about two to three years.”
  • Earlier this year, a judge ordered Krafton to reinstate the CEO of Unknown Worlds and full control of Subnautica after the publisher fired the leadership of the studio last year. When the trio was originally fired, they launched a lawsuit against Krafton, accusing the company of making the decision in an attempt to avoid paying out a $250 million bonus for the game’s development team.
