Square Enix games will "release simultaneously on each platform more and more," Final Fantasy producer claims
Final Fantasy XIV and XVI producer Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida has stated that Square Enix is planning more multi-platform releases in the future, following the company's previous exclusivity agreements with PlayStation.
The details:
Speaking with 4Gamer about the upcoming RPG Fantasian Neo Dimension, Yoshida confirmed that Square Enix intends to move away from console exclusivity. βOf course, we want you to play it a lot on other platforms as well,β he said. βThis time, we will also release the Xbox Series X|S version at the same time. In the future, Square Enix titles will be released simultaneously on each platform more and more, but since this is close to the first release, we would like Xbox users to play it as well.β
Square Enix disclosed earlier this year in a financial report that it would consider more multi-platform releases after Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI sold fewer units than expected as timed PS5 exclusives. Yoshida later stated that he wished to bring FF16 to Xbox after the game's PC release, and while a port was rumored to be in the works, it has yet to be announced.
During the interview with 4Gamer, Yoshida also hinted that he would like to see re-releases of Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics, and even joked with Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi about making a new Parasite Eve game. While nothing was confirmed about Square Enix's future plans, it was previously rumored that a remaster of Tactics was in the works, with Bloomberg's Jason Schreier claiming it was "real and happening."
