Square Enix has confirmed that it will be revealing a new Dissidia game this week, but unfortunately for most fans, it appears that it is a mobile exclusive.

The details:

  • Square Enix has announced the return of Dissidia Final Fantasy, the popular crossover fighting spin-off series that first debuted on PSP in 2008. The new entry will launch exclusively for iOS and Android, with more details set to be revealed during a livestream on October 14.
  • A teaser website for the game features an image of real-world Tokyo and silhouettes of fan-favorite Final Fantasy characters, including Cloud, Lightning, Rinoa, Auron, and Zidane. The upcoming title is described as a “Team Boss Battle Arena,” suggesting a co-op style game that differs from the traditional one-on-one fighting of past Dissidia games.
  • Fans have expressed mixed reactions to the reveal. While some are excited for the franchise’s potential return to its traditional style following 2015’s Dissidia NT, others are frustrated by Square Enix’s continued focus on mobile titles, citing the company’s track record with previous shutdowns like Dissidia Opera Omnia, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, and Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, and the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link.
