Sony is reportedly scrapping plans to bring its single-player PlayStation 5 games to PC, marking yet another major shift that returns the company to console exclusivity after six years of releasing titles on PC.

The details:

  • According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, PlayStation has recently scrapped its plans to port Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei and other first-party games to PC, with future titles expected to remain console exclusives going forward. It’s claimed that the decision was prompted by worries that the multi-platform releases could hurt console sales and that PlayStation’s PC ports have underperformed commercially in recent years.
  • While single-player games will not come to PC, it’s said that multiplayer titles such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will still launch across multiple platforms. This is unsurprising given the reliance on large player bases when it comes to multiplayer titles, with the likes of Helldivers 2 being met with massive success on both PC and later Xbox.
  • Third-party titles published by PlayStation, such as Death Stranding 2, will not be affected by the strategy shift for now. Sony-owned studio Nixxes Software will also remain open despite its focus on porting PlayStation games, though the developer has also provided co-development and post-launch support for many popular titles.
