Sony and Honda have announced that they have cancelled development of Afeela 1, a car that would feature official PlayStation Remote Play support.

The details:

  • Originally announced in 2024, the Afeela 1 was being developed under the Sony Honda Mobility partnership and was set to be released last year. The vehicle was set to provide a “premium entertainment experience,” with PlayStation features included such as Remote Play and dashboard themes based on its first-party IPs, and it was even driven on stage using a DualSense controller.
  • However, as reported by Nikkei, the project has now scrapped both the Afeela 1 and the second model from the partnership. The decision comes after a decline in global sales of electric vehicles over the past year, with Honda having canceled multiple launches earlier this month. “The underlying assumptions of Sony Honda Mobility’s business operations, such as the utilization of certain technologies and assets planned to be provided by Honda, were fundamentally altered,” a statement reads.
  • Despite the cancellation of the Afeela 1 in the real world, it lives on in digital form in Gran Turismo 7, where a prototype Afeela car is also available for players to drive around the track.
