Sony reportedly pauses PlayStation VR2 production due to slow sales
According to reports, Sony has halted production of new PlayStation VR2 units to shift a large number of unsold devices.
The details:
As reported by Bloomberg, sales of the PS VR2 have been declining since its launch last year, resulting in Sony sending fewer units to retailers in recent months to the point where it has stopped producing them entirely.
According to research firm IDC, Sony appears to have many unsold headsets after manufacturing over two million units of the VR platform. Sony has not revealed sales figures since confirming that it had sold over 600,000 units in May 2023, and has yet to respond to the claims.
Claims of the PS VR2's commercial underperformance surfaced shortly after its release, with many believing that the high price tag and small first-party game library were to blame. The headset costs $550 on its own, which is more than the PS5. The PS5 is available in official bundles for as little as $450 alongside hits such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
