CD Projekt Red has given the clearest indication yet of when The Witcher 4 will arrive, with joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirming the studio is targeting a 2028 release window. The company stopped short of committing to a specific date, but the statement represents a significant narrowing of the timeline for one of the most anticipated RPGs in development.

The details:

Nowakowski confirmed that more than 500 people are now actively working on The Witcher 4. The studio has framed this as a sign of the project's scale and the seriousness of its development momentum, though CD Projekt's history with Cyberpunk 2077 means any date comes with the caveat that things can change.
The Witcher 4 will star Ciri rather than Geralt, picking up with her as an experienced Witcher in her own right. The shift in protagonist has been positioned by the studio as a new era for the franchise rather than a continuation of Geralt's arc.
Alongside the Witcher 4 update, CD Projekt also teased "a surprise or two" related to other projects at Gamescom, which is currently underway in Cologne. Separately, The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a new expansion co-developed with Fool's Theory, was confirmed at Opening Night Live and is targeting a September 2026 release.
