It has been reported that the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold triple the number of units of its predecessor within its first month on sale.

The details:

  • As reported by Famitsu (via VGC and Yomiuri), the Switch 2 has sold 1,538,260 units in Japan within its first month on the market, over triple the Switch 1’s 556,633. The actual figure could be even higher, as it only includes sales from over 3,000 stores, with sales from Nintendo’s own storefront not being taken into account.
  • The impressive figure is the highest first-month sales of any console launch since Famitsu originally began collecting data all the way back in 1996 and has outperformed both the Game Boy Advance and the DS at 1,367,433 and 1,269,846, respectively. It has also outsold Sony’s PlayStation 2, which sold 1,134,862 units within the same timeframe back in 2000.
  • It was announced earlier this month that the Switch 2 had sold a whopping five million units after less than a month on sale, more than half that of the original Switch. With 1.1 million sales in the US alone, Nintendo revealed that it was the largest console launch in not only company history but also in the history of gaming as a whole.
