Nintendo Switch 2 is the biggest console launch in the history of Nintendo, and possibly all of gaming

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 is the biggest console launch in the history of the company, and it appears that it may also be the biggest in all of gaming history.
The details:
The Japanese gaming giant has announced that over 3.5 million Switch 2 units have been sold in less than a week, having been released worldwide on Thursday, making it the fastest launch in Nintendo history. βFans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,β Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said in a statement. βWe are thankful for their response and happy to see the fun they are already having with Nintendo Switch 2 as they explore new features and games that bring friends and family together in new ways.β
The milestone appears to be the largest launch in gaming history. For comparison, Sony's PS5, which faced shortages at launch, shipped 4.5 million units in its first quarter, just one million more than the Switch 2 sold in six days. Meanwhile, Microsoft has not revealed any sales figures for the Xbox Series X/S, but they are likely to be lower than the PS5.
Nintendo is expecting the console to sell 15 million units within the financial year, which ends in March 2026. However, this target is predicted to be surpassed significantly, with the company stating that the higher price tag of the system is a major factor in the lower sales forecast.
