Monster Hunter Wilds, which was released on Friday, has officially surpassed one million concurrent players on Steam, despite reports of technical issues.

The details:

  • Less than 24 hours after its release, Wilds has not only tripled its predecessor Monster Hunter World's all-time concurrent player count, but is being played by 1,065,140 people at the time of writing. The number has rapidly increased over the last few hours, first surpassing one million around 11 a.m. UTC, and is expected to rise further over the weekend.

  • The title has now surpassed the all-time peak of CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077, one of the largest (and buggiest) releases of the last decade, with 1,054,388 concurrent players. It has also surpassed other popular games like Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3, and is trailing Dota 2's impressive peak of 1,295,114 players.

  • Despite the game's commercial success, reviews have been mixed, with many complaints focusing on technical issues on the PC. Players have criticized its poor optimization, which results in low frame rates and little opportunity to improve the experience due to ghosting and textures failing to load. However, console players have reported significantly better performance than in the beta, which could be linked to the 15GB day one patch.
