Monster Hunter Wilds requires a 15GB day one patch to play its physical version, Capcom confirms

Capcom has confirmed that a 15GB day one patch is required to play Monster Hunter Wilds, even if players choose to buy a physical copy and play offline.
The details:
Ahead of its February 28 release, the publisher announced on X that even if players purchase a physical copy of the game, they must download a 15 GB patch in order to play. Those who pre-ordered the game digitally will also need to download the update, which they can do right now ahead of its release.
Capcom has not revealed what the update will include, but it is likely to address a number of technical issues raised by reviewers. According to Digital Foundry, the lighting, shadows, textures, and performance in the review build of Wilds was rough at times, with the PS5 version appearing to provide the best overall experience.
Some fans believe the update isn't technically required for offline play, and Capcom is simply trying to force players to play a more polished version. If a physical copy can be played without the update, it should be noted that Monster Hunter's popular multiplayer mode will be unavailable regardless of platform.
Capcom has also confirmed that the game will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at 12am in all time zones, while PC players will have to wait until 12am EST. Console players can also play early by changing their system's region to New Zealand, a trick commonly used to gain access to games like Call of Duty nearly a day before their official release.
